HKSYU will take all feasible measures to provide
Class and examination arrangement in the event of typhoon Signal No. 8 or above/ Black Rainstorm
In force:
At or after 7:00 am | Classes/examinations in morning sessions from 9:10 am to 1:40 pm will be cancelled. |
At or after 12:00 noon | Classes/examinations in afternoon sessions from 1:50 pm to 6:15 pm will be cancelled. |
At or after 4:00 pm | Classes/examinations in evening sessions from 6:40 pm to 9:20 pm will be cancelled. |
During the commute to campus | Students and academic staff should return home as soon as possible. If it is not safe to do so, students and academic staff may consider to complete the journey to campus or stay in a safe place. |
During class/ examination | Black Rainstorm Warning Class/examination will be conducted as normal. Typhoon Signal No. 8 |
At the end of class/ examination | Students and academic staff should take their personal safety into consideration when deciding whether to leave immediately. |
Work arrangements for administrative staff in the event of typhoon Signal No. 8 or above/ Black Rainstorm
In force:
At or after 9:00 am | Administrative staff need not report for duty before the lunch break. |
At or after 12:00 noon | Administrative staff need not report for duty for the afternoon session. |
During the commute to work | Administrative staff should return home as soon as possible. If it is not safe to do so, students and academic staff may consider to complete the journey to campus or stay in a safe place. |
During working hours | Black Rainstorm Warning Administrative staff will remain at work as normal. Typhoon Signal No. 8 |
At the end of the working day | Administrative staff should take their personal safety into consideration when deciding whether to leave immediately. |
Cancelled:
At or before 12:00 noon | Administrative staff should report for duty within 2 hours for the afternoon session.
If practical difficulties make it impossible to return to work within 2 hours, the administrative staff concerned should notify their Supervisor/Manager/Head/Director as soon as possible. The respective Supervisor/Manager |

On-campus Assembly Points for Evacuation
When you hear the fire alarm:
1 | Stay calm. |
2 | Evacuate immediately through the nearest exit or staircase. |
3 | Walk to the designated assembly point. |
4 | Don’t use the lifts. |
5 | Don’t return to the building until permission is given by the staff/ the Fire Services Department Officer in charge of the scene. |
When there is a fire:
1 | Stay calm. |
2 | Activate the fire alarm if accessible. |
3 | Report to the Security Control Room immediately. |
4 | Alert people in the vicinity. |
5 | Attempt to extinguish the fire if safe to do so and if trained in the use of fire fighting equipment. |
6 | Evacuate immediately through the nearest exit or staircase if the fire is beyond control. |
7 | Walk to the designated assembly point. |
8 | Don’t use the lifts. |
9 | Don’t return to the building until permission is given by the staff/ the Fire Services Department Officer in charge of the scene. |
When someone is suffered from injury/illness:
1 | Call the Security Control Room for assistance at 2804 8566. |
2 | If the situation is urgent/serious, call 999 for emergency help and then inform the Security Control Room. |
3 | Don’t perform rescue operation unless you have been trained to do so. |
4 | Don’t move an injured person unless it is necessary for safety reason. |
5 | Keep the injured or ill person comfortable, warm and lying down. |
6 | Let the trained staff provide first aid treatment in case of need before the ambulance arrives. |
If you are trapped in lift:
1 | Stay calm. |
2 | Press the alarm button. |
3 | Use the intercom to communicate with the Security Control Room. |
4 | Be patient and wait for help. |
5 | Don’t attempt to force open the lift doors or get out through the manhole at the ceiling as this may cause fatal accident. |
If there is a gas leak:
1 | Stay calm. |
2 | Don’t turn on or off any electrical switches (including mobile phone). |
3 | Shut off gas supply if accessible. |
4 | Open all doors and windows to dilute the gas. |
5 | Alert people in the vicinity. |
6 | Evacuate people from the affected areas immediately through the nearest exit or staircase to outdoor areas. |
7 | Inform the Security Control Room after keeping safe distance from the areas at 2804 8566. |

The Safety Committee will normally meet once per academic year.
